VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) -

Police were on the scene of a standoff in Vidalia on Toombs and Georgia streets off of Georgia Highway 292 where they have arrested a fugitive.

Police say they were trying to serve a warrant on the fugitive, Hakeem McKinnon, from Indiana. We are told McKinnon may be wanted on murder charges.

Marshals and police had earlier convinced four other people to come out of the home peacefully. But the day-long standoff ended with SWAT members finding McKinnon in the attic.

Police say they'd rather take all day than get an officer or suspect shot.

"Our best outcome is for us to go home to our families and even for the violator to be safe," said LT. Jimmy Sims, Vidalia Police Department.

McKinnon is in the Toombs County Jail. No word on extradition.

WTOC will continue to update this developing story.
