A Savannah family hosting a day of fun in an effort to deter children from gun violence on Saturday.

Michelle and Joseph Pastures hosted their first anti-violence block party. Their son was shot and killed in 2015 - a victim to the city's gang and gun violence.

The day was all about remembering him and providing alternatives to children in the community. The day in the park included food and games as well as prize giveaways.

The mission is to help restore and empower youth to become responsible and productive citizens.

"It's all about the children," said Joseph Pastures. "Try to help the children, give them alternatives besides going and joining the neighborhood gangs and ride around and do burglaries, do robberies. That's not the right thing to do."

The Pastures started PAK - which stands for people against killing. They hope to grow this event in the future.
