BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

You can almost hear the school bells ringing across the region as a new year starts Tuesday for students, teachers, and parents in Bulloch County.

Teachers worked in their classrooms at Mattie Lively Elementary Monday for the last day before more than 600 students arrive. The school's principal says starting classes on a Tuesday gave teachers Monday to finish warming up. While teachers prepare, the principal says parents can do a few things Monday night and Tuesday morning to help their students get a good start to the year.

"Making sure they get a good dinner tonight; a good breakfast in the morning. Get to school on time. Maybe have clothes laid out ahead of time so the morning is a little easier," said Dr. Carolyn Vasilatos, Principal.

She says a good night's sleep and good nutrition go a long way all year long, but especially the first week of school.
