Chatham Area Transit tests electric bus

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah goes electric! Chatham Area Transit tested out an all-electric bus on Monday.

The bus is manufactured by Proterra, a company out of Greenville, SC. It is designed to travel more than 63 miles on a single charge.

CAT officials telling us the battery would last an entire day.

"I think for Savannah it's going to be a game changer. It's quiet, it has no emissions coming out of it and we're really excited to bring it on," said Howard French, the chairman of the CAT board.

"This bus will save us about $150,000 just in fuel as well as maintenance costs. There's a lot less moving parts," said Curtis Koleber, the CEO of CAT.

So, what's next? CAT's CEO telling us they've purchased three electric buses, expected to be here in the summer of 2019.
