BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

The first day of school can mean excitement and adjustments for students and parents, as well as teachers and principals.

Tuesday was the first day back for four South Georgia counties. WTOC's Dal Cannady spent some time in Bulloch County for the big day and says everyone worked together to make the first day back a great one.

Cassandra Davis has been preparing her son Devonte for the big world of Kindergarten at Sallie Zetterower.

"You have to learn where you're going, learn your classroom, learn your bus and everything," Davis said.

Each classroom had parents dropping off little ones with a kiss or two as they watched their child ease into the day.

"It's always an adjustment, and this is a great time for teachers to set those expectations in their classroom and schoolwide," said Principal, Marlin Baker, Sallie Zetterower.

Across town at Statesboro High, even with all the hustle and bustle, freshmen had to ask which hall was which and get directions to class. Administrators say the first day is always more about adjustment than instruction.

"We all want to know, as parents, and need to know that when children come to school, they're in a safe environment; a nurturing environment, and a strong learning environment," said Superintendent, Charles Wilson.
