BCSO arrests HHI man, woman on pile of drug-related charges

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County investigators arrested a Lowcountry man and woman on a plethora of drug-related charges Tuesday morning following a three-month-long investigation. 

BCSO obtained warrants for the arrest of 19-year-old Juan Romero, including five counts of sale and distribution of cocaine, and five counts of sale and distribution of cocaine within a half mile of a school. Sheriff's office investigators and SWAT deputies served the search warrant at Romero's apartment on Dillon Road. When they entered the apartment, they found Romero and 17-year-old Ana Toscano-Ibanez inside. Romero was arrested and Toscano-Ibanez was detained while investigators searched the apartment. 

While searching the apartment, investigators found and seized a trafficking amount of cocaine, distribution amounts of both marijuana and Xanax pills, and two firearms - a pistol and a shotgun. In light of the illegal drugs and firearms found inside the apartment, Romero was additionally charged and Toscano-Ibanez was also arrested on multiple charges. Both were transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center, incarcerated, and received bond hearings. The individual charges and total bond amounts are listed below:

  • Romero was charged with five counts sale and distribution of cocaine, five counts sale and distribution of cocaine within a half mile of a school, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax), possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, driving under suspension, and three town of Hilton Head Island Municipal Court bench warrants. He remains incarcerated with a total bond amount set at $261,245.11. 
  • Toscano-Ibanez was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax), and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, She remains incarcerated with a total bond amount set at $80,000.
