Shark Tooth Fairy flies again!

Affectionately known as the 'Shark Tooth Fairy,' Mike Harris is a Lowcountry diver who finds shark teeth and then hides them for kids to find along area beaches.

The Shark Tooth Fairy's wings have been clipped for almost two years, but we've been keeping in touch with him and received an unexpected update on Wednesday.

When Mike reached out to me about two weeks ago, he had started another petition to get his hobby diving license back. That came after the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology suspended his license for not properly documenting his finds. The organization did say Mike could get a commercial license because he was charging for Shark Tooth events like the one he held in Port Royal. However, Mike says the cost of the license far exceeded any profit on the finds. It seemed there was no compromise...until now.

Hi Jamie! Got some good news today! I got an e-mail from the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology and they finally decided to send me a license, so the Shark Tooth Fairy will be back in action soon. Right now, all of my dive gear is rotten so I've gotta get new dive gear, but it won't be long, it won't be long.

Mike says his first order of business is holding a special needs hunt because he promised parents before his license was pulled. He also wants to make sure that proper thanks is given to South Carolina Representative Shannon Smith Erickson from Beaufort for her help navigating the sometimes murky waters of state laws and licensing.
