HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

South Carolina is a little over half way through its tax free weekend. The annual Sales Tax Holiday helps families save on important back-to-school items - while retailers love traffic in and out of their doors.

The Tanger Outlets in Hilton Head weren't busy, they were packed. Shoppers were filling up both arms with bags.

You can see the traffic through the Outlets - and that's of people going in and out of stores but also parking traffic. Cars are just circling to see if they can snag a spot.

Retailers say they can't catch a break - but that's not just from shoppers around here. They say customers range from locals to visitors from other countries also taking advantage of saving a little extra cash.

"Surprisingly - there's a lot of tourists," said Justin Parker, True Religion Employee. "They actually know about it too. I guess by word of mouth. So a lot of them actually know about it - so that's surprising."

You can see kids excited about their new clothes. Guess what? Their parents are just as excited because of the deals and the money they're saving from taxes.

This kid right here got 6 pairs of gym shorts for $9. It doesn't stop there. These girls found their first day of school outfits as they start back on Monday.

"This is what I'm wearing on my first day," said Lamaria Lee and Mylaijah Lee.

But to get these deals - they say people are ruthless.

"People walking around, getting stuff, exchanging stuff," said Kylee Hendry. "They kind of push you out of the way."
