HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) -

Hardeeville police are investigating a crash involving a car and a passenger train.

Officials say a train hit a car that was sitting on the tracks. It happened on Church Road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

No one was injured, but the car was cut in half and caught fire. Officials arrested the driver, 23-year-old Tangela Leshay Bowman, and charged her with DUI and violation of beginners permit.

Bowman tells police she was trying to do a U-turn when the car got stuck on the tracks. There was one passenger in the car with Bowman, but they were not charged and were released at the scene.

Police say part of the vehicle was dragged to the Industrial Park Crossing. This incident did $100,000 worth of damage to the Amtrak train.

There was no derailment. Four hundred passengers were on the train at the time. Only one person was taken to the hospital for an asthma attack caused by gas.

Officials continue to investigate.
