Gene Sauers knew it the second he hit it.
"It's in the water," it looked like the former Georgia Southern Eagle said after taking his second swing of a sudden death playoff.
He was right. The ball landed just short of the 18th green, in the pond for a two-stroke penalty.
From there, Paul Goydos was able to three-putt for par and the 3M Championship victory.
It's Sauers' second sudden death playoff loss this season, but the Savannah native needed some nerves of steel to force extra holes. He dropped a seven-foot birdie putt just to stay even with Goydos.
The former Georgia Southern standout had six birdies and no bogeys in Sunday's round. He'll tee it up again next week at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
