SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police continue to fight back against crime - adding 26 new officers to the force on Thursday.

A badge pinning ceremony was held for the new officers at Trustees Theatre. The 8 women and 18 men will soon be assigned to different responsibilities across several precincts in the city.

We spoke with one new officer who says it has always been a dream of his to be a police officer.

"I've always wanted to serve," said Darren Bradley, new SCMPD patrolman. "I got the opportunity to serve my country, and now I know it sounds cliche, but now I have the opportunity to continue to continue serving my community. To me that is very important, it means a lot."

These new officers will hit the streets now that they've completed several weeks of training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and Metro's own Patrol School.
