SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

First year students at Armstrong State University are settling in to their new doors ahead of the first day of school.

Thursday was move-in day for about 500 freshman at the university's Windward Commons residence hall ahead of the Fall 2017 semester. The Vice President of Student Affairs says students didn't let the rain bring down their excitement.

"We have been working hard all summer preparing for this day," said Georj Lewis, VP, Student Affairs. "And when you work on the campus, one thing you look forward to is the firs day of school. So that is why so many of us are out here volunteering. Greeting them with a smile, and we are also helping some carry things up to their rooms."

Friday, about 3,000 students will move in to Georgia Southern University.
