Arrest made in fatal shooting of former Hardeeville volunteer fire chief

HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) -

An arrest has been made in the Ulman Street fatal shooting of 77-year-old Ernest Martin Stevens.

The City of Hardeeville is reporting Devon Dunham, 30, has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm of convicted felon and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

The arrest was made at 9:25 p.m. on Friday, just one day after the initial incident. Intelligence pointed officers to a Days Inn on the 200 block of Stephenson Avenue, where he was arrested without incident. The arrest was made with the assistance of the South East United States Marshal Task Force, Savannah-Metropolitan Police Department, SLED, 14th Circuit Solicitors Office and the Hardeeville Police Department.

Officials also arrested and charged 18-year-old Tyreek Lester for carrying a concealed weapon.

Dunham is being held in the Chatham County Jail. He is awaiting extradition to Jasper County.
