The Savannah Bananas' 2017 season came to an end Friday night.
The team will not defend it's Coastal Plain League title, dropping a 9-0 decision to Gastonia in Game 2 of the Western Division finals.
Grizzlies' starter Billy Layne baffled the Banana offense, allowing just two hits over eight scoreless innings. Gastonia gave a Layne a 2-0 lead through seven innings before blowing the game open with a seven-run eighth inning.
Tanner Routh got the start for the Bananas, and pitched well. He struck out six over six innings, allowing just one run. But the defense never helped, committing four errors in the loss.
