HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds of families headed to Fort Stewart Saturday to learn more about what to expect when they're expecting.

Close to a 1,000 new parents and parents-to-be packed the Club Stewart Ballroom at Winn Army Community Hospital's 7th annual baby expo. The focus for Fort Stewart is taking care of its families.

For the army, it's readiness. Hospital leaders say this is a way to ensure entire families are ready for their new baby.

"Many of these pregnant women here today are also soldiers, and we want to make sure that they're well educated on the things they can do to have a successful delivery, be successful parents, but also continue to be successful and professional soldiers," said Col. Christopher Warner, Commander, Winn Army Community Hospital.

Colonel Warner says there's also a special focus on dads, teaching them swaddling and diaper changing. With more than 100 babies delivered each month and about 1,200 born each year, he says these lessons are much needed.
