LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

A man speeding and trying to improperly pass a car that was turning left caused a severe crash in Lee County at Buckston Trace and Philema Road, according to the State Patrol.

Trooper David Fretwell said that Bruce Kennedy, 32, of Douglasville, tried to pass the car driven by Edward Hill, 59, of Leesburg, and T-boned that car about 7:30 Saturday evening.

The trooper said that Kennedy, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma, jumped out of the truck and took off running, but walked back the wreck scene later.

A passenger in Hill's car, Howard Craven, 57, was also injured. Both men were taken to Phoebe Putney Hospital.

Kennedy will be charged with nine violations, ranging from DUI to leaving the scene, to reckless driving, driving with suspended registration, to possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Lee County jail.

Georgia State Patrol, Lee Co. Sheriff's Office, Lee Co. EMS, and Lee Co. Fire Department responded to the crash.
