Tropical Depression Eight has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Gert after forming in the southwestern Atlantic.
Visually, the tropical system continues to look more organized on satellite. Strengthening is likely over the next few days; peaking at strong tropical storm or category one hurricane strength mid-week.
No direct impacts are expected in our area.
Gert will move northerly, then northeasterly through Wednesday; staying well east of the United States. Gert will move quickly northeastward – away from the United States – Thursday and Friday.
Thousands of miles to the east, Invest 91-L has been classified just off the African Coast. While there is still a lot of uncertainty with this area of storminess, it will likely become our next tropical system within the next five to seven days.
The First Alert Forecast Team will continue to track both systems over the next several days.
