Scammers are busy making calls hoping to get some easy money. They claim to be part of Liberty County law enforcement.

Here's the first scam: The con artists want donations for a health program involving the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. They also ask for advertisement money involving National Night Out.

Here's the second scam: Callers claim to be from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. They tell people they didn't show up for jury duty and now have arrest warrants - unless of course, they pay a fine.

We spoke with one of the sheriff's office lead investigators.

"We don't, of course, collect finds over the phone. We do not call you in reference to arrest warrants or jury summons you may have missed, and we don't request any payment over the phone," said Investigator Tracy Jennings.

These scammers are pretty specific and could potentially be believable to someone who may not know the difference. People tend to believe things that come from a sheriff's office. They automatically want to respond.

One of the numbers used in the bogus calls comes up as an Iowa area code, 563.888.5627. The other number is 1.888.627.6247.
