Victim identified, suspect arrested in shooting on Leaping Frog Lane in Sheldon

SHELDON, SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies have arrested a suspect in a murder that took place on Leaping Frog Lane in Sheldon, Tuesday afternoon. 

Deputies responded to the shooting incident around 5:30 p.m, secured the scene and called EMS for assistance when they found one adult male suffering at least one gunshot wound. EMS pronounced 40-year-old Lamont Manigo of Yemassee dead on the scene. 

Witnesses reported that the suspect had gotten away on a bicycle. Deputies received a tip on his whereabouts which led them to a shed on the property of a Gray Road residence in the Big Estates community, where he was reportedly hiding. Officials found and arrested 25-year-old Dontarious Wright of Seabrook for Manigo's murder. 

BCSO is still actively investigating on Leaping Frog Lane, the Sheldon shooting location, and the Gray Road Big Estates property. 

The coroner's office is scheduling a forensic autopsy, which will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina.
