5 car break-ins in Statesboro Rideshare parking lot under investigation

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Investigators in Bulloch County want to find who smashed their way into cars - in a place you think it's safe to park.

Crooks broke into five cars parked in a Rideshare lot on Highway 67. People use the lot when they carpool to work in Savannah and other cities. The victims in the case got a call early Wednesday morning about the theft and the damage.

You could see glass shattered around the parking lot. A Bulloch County deputy on patrol checked the parking lot around 4 a.m. and found five cars with smashed windows and things plundered inside. Investigators say victims reported some things missing, but not much. The idea of this kind of break-in bothers plenty of drivers.

"You leave your car there thinking it will be safe for eight hours, 10 hours while you're working, not thinking you'll come back and somebody's destroyed your car and stolen your stuff," said Stacy Girardeau of Nevils.

Officials are looking for anyone who might have seen anything, but they also have some tips for people to lessen the odds of becoming a victim.

"Please take all your valuables out of your vehicles if you're going to use the Rideshares. We patrol them as much as we can with the resources that we have," said Capt. Todd Hutchens, Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to contact the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
