Exclusive Video: Serial Rapist Suspect Arrest

It took police from two states to finally catch up to and arrest suspected serial rapist Ron Young, and they caught it all on tape.

After getting a call from Hardeeville police, officers from Port Wentworth caught up to, pulled over and captured Young.

The images here are from the video Port Wentworth police sergeant Richard Scholes captured from his police car's camera in the early morning hours of July 6. The video itself is linked below the images.

"Driver, turn your vehicle off and exit the vehicle," Scholes is heard to say on the tape. "Put your hands in the air, look straight back to me, stop, turn around, get on your knees. Get on your knees. Keep your hands in the air. Do not move, we are coming up behind you, do not move."

Chief James Melvin says his officers handled the situation perfectly. "Dealing with the information they had, he was a possible violent suspect who was armed, they did a felony protocol stop, which means they had their weapons drawn."

And when they saw the man face to face, something looked familiar. "They recognized his appearance from the flyer, the composite from Savannah-Chatham police," said Chief Melvin.

And because of this traffic stop, the year-long search for the suspected serial rapist was over.

"I think they acted appropriately and they took action, quick action, and put an end to terror around the neighborhood and community," said Chief Melvin.

That terror was caused by a man police say raped half a dozen women in Georgia and South Carolina.

Ron Young is behind bars at the Chatham County jail, so far charged with two rapes in Savannah and another in Richmond Hill. His next court date is scheduled for August 4.
