A deputy's back on the beat in Beaufort County after a controversy. A month ago, Dep. Daryl Malphrus pulled over Phillip Lewis for driving erratically. Lewis passed a field sobriety test, so the deputy let him go.
But a quarter mile later, Lewis crossed the center line on the McTeer Bridge and slammed into a truck. He's still in the hospital.
The sheriff's department put Malphrus on leave while they investigated. Yesterday, they cleared him in the case.
