A pit bull remains in custody at the Effingham County animal shelter after he bit a teenage girl. The dog, Baby, bit 17-year-old Hailey Stafford after she rescued her little dog from being mauled. She received several stitches.
Baby has been in quarantine for the past ten days and will remain there until the judge sets a date for a hearing.
Animal control says the owners may get the dog back if they build a special fence and take out a $15,000 insurance policy or surety bond.
The judge must first decide if the dog is truly dangerous.
