The first day of August is also the first day of school in a few Georgia counties. Thousands of students in Tattnall County were back in school today. The kindergarteners weren't the only newcomers as the school system welcomes a new superintendent, Jim Turberville, who's pleased with achievements at every school already.
"This district is way out ahead and that really makes me feel wonderful," he said. "The people I've met here are outstanding educators."
The new year also brings classroom innovations. Some middle school teachers will use laptop computers to teach language arts.
