Firefighters Battle Huge Garden City Blaze

At least two fire departments had to be called in to battle a huge blaze in Garden City early today. Just after 5:30am, Garden City firefighters and police got the call of a house fire on Heidt Avenue, just off Highway 80. When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames and the power lines overhead were exploding.

The power finally went off and Garden City had to call for assistance from Pooler volunteer firefighters. An initial search of the home shows no one was inside, but the home continued to burn, so it will be quite a while before firefighters can begin looking into the cause.

Smoke from the huge blaze blanketed Chatham Parkway and Highway 80.
