Good news for City of Savannah residents. Many people will see a decrease in their taxes. City council has lowered the millage rate.
To give you an idea of how this works, if you have a home currently valued at $100,000, you will see a tax decrease of $16.
The mayor and city council have worked very hard with the financial staff during the last year to pass a budget that would keep low taxes and still provide essential city services.
"We made a commitment when we adopted this budget to do all that we can to lower the millage, so we can do all we need to do and still give taxpayers a break," Mayor Otis Johnson said.
Now if the value of your house went up or you are not registered for a homestead exemption, you may not see the tax decrease.
