Here's a decision plenty of people waited years for, and now it's official. They're tearing down the City Market parking garage in downtown Savannah and replacing it with a new, underground garage. City council approved it today.
They did set a budget, though. It can't cost more than $29 million. They also set other requirements, like minority business participation in the job.
"Our company has been in business for 90 years in the State of Georgia and I would hope that shows we do what we say we are going to do and we are totally committed to the process and we are working hand in hand with the city," said Ray Michaels.
They should start tearing down the old garage in December, when we'll really start to see changes around Barnard and Congress. We'll watch the progress and keep you posted.
