A part of Savannah's history is about to get bigger. The Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum is expanding its building. The museum will add a multi-purpose facility on the West Alice Street side of the building. The addition will include classrooms and a place for lectures and banquets. There will also be a library.
"The community had a need for a multi-purpose/function room," said the museum's Helen Johnson. "We're just excited about it and we just have so much to thank the county for, because of the SPLOST fund in order to help us get this."
The new section of the museum should be completed by next summer.
