SCHP bringing awareness to texting, driving as holiday travel increases

SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting a special enforcement effort to curb distracted driving as Thanksgiving travel increases.

Texting and driving is against the law in South Carolina, and troopers will be out making sure drivers are staying off their phones and keeping their eyes on the road.

"Driving a speed at 55 miles-per-hour and sending a text or reviewing a text is like driving blind for the length of a football field," said CMDR Chris Williamson, SCHP.

Last year, SC troopers issued more than 1,000 tickets for texting and driving.
