Teachers in Chatham County started their first day of school today. At Groves High School, teachers were decorating their bulletin boards, cleaning and putting the final touches on their classrooms.
Other teachers have been painting murals in the stairwells to brighten things up.
The students begin school next Monday, and teachers say they're excited. "The students come back and you get a new chance to teach them, open the doors of history," said Groves teacher Angelina Muskin. "For me, it's starting history all over again every year, greeting new students every year, seeing baby freshman coming back as big, bad seniors."
This morning, teachers at Groves were treated to a special breakfast with interim principal Virginia DeLoach. The board of education is still searching for a permanent principal for the school.
