SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A source close to the negotiations between Memorial Health and the Hospital Corporation of America says the sale of Memorial is now being postponed at least one month.  That deal was supposed to close by the end of this year.

Memorial Health is expected to issue a press release Thursday morning saying the sale of the non-profit hospital to HCA won't happen until the beginning of February.

One possible benefit for HCA is that the company might avoid paying property taxes for 2018 on the hospital property.

The obvious downside to that, Savannah could potentially be out hundreds of thousands if not millions in tax dollars it was depending on for next year's budget.
