HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - A big crowd braved cooler temperatures for the 5th annual chowder challenge on Hilton Head Island.
The Heather Trew foundation hosts the event to raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donations, encouraging everyone in attendance to register as an organ donor.
"Right now there's 116,000 people nationally waiting for a life-saving transplant," said Chris Heyburn of the Heather Trew Foundation. "In South Carolina, there's nearly 1,500 people on the waiting list."
Local restaurants took the opportunity cook up their favorite chowders and compete for a prize.
Admission was 5 dollars with all proceeds benefitting the Heather Trew foundation. The Headliners highlighted the fun with a concert as well.
