The home of the Third Infantry Division is receiving top honors today. Military officials from Fort Stewart, along with people from our area, are in Washington, DC. They're receiving the Army Community of Excellence Award.
There are 188 Army installations across the United States, and for the second year in a row, Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have come out on top.
"On top of everything that they're doing in Iraq, in the Middle East in general with deployments, it really speaks well of their leadership," said US Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA Dist. 1).
This award also comes with a $2 million "prize." The money will be used to help base organizations with their needs.
