After three days on the run, Tarus Green is now in police custody. Green escaped on Sunday from the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center.
Police will not bring him back there. He is 17, a legal adult, and will go to the Chatham County jail for charges relating to his escape.
Officers got an anonymous tip and caught Green on Capitol Street. He was originally in the youth detention center for his involvement in a string of shootings when he was 16.
Police say Green and some of the juvenile inmates moved a basketball goal over to the fence at the youth detention center so Green could jump over. He escaped, but not for long.
"To have your picture plastered all over the television set as being a wanted escapee from a detention center, it makes it hard to move around," said the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Sgt. Mike Wilson. "As you can see, there were people in the community concerned that gave us the information about his whereabouts."
Green will be arraigned on his escape charges tomorrow at the Chatham County Courthouse.
