Investigator Recommends Court-Martial in Marine Recruit Drowning

Marine Staff Sgt. Nadya Lopez may indeed be facing court-martial in the drowning death of Marine recruit Jason Tharpe. Based on the hearing earlier this month, a Marine investigating officer is recommending that the Parris Island drill instructor face a general court-martial.

She's charged with negligent homicide, assault, and failure to obey an order or regulation.

Tharp drowned in the Parris Island swimming pool in February.

It's now up to Parris Island's commanding officer, Brig. Gen. Richard Tryon, whether or not Lopez will be court-martialed.
