COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) –  The House of Heroes is at it again, making minor repairs to the home of an army veteran's widow.

Volunteers painted Mattie Smith's Allegheny Dr. home in Columbus this afternoon.

Smith says if her husband, Private James Smith, was still alive, he would appreciate this just as much as she does.

"I didn't believe that they were going to do it for me and they did tell me I was eligible and they would do it for me and I appreciate that,” says Smith.

The house of heroes also presented Smith with a flag during a ceremony after the painting was completed at the home.
