GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

While South Carolina doesn't have the highest residential electricity price in the country, the U.S Energy Information Administration says South Carolinians are spending the most in the U.S. on their power.

According to a report released on Feb. 13 by EIA, the average resident in South Carolina spent $1,753 on electricity in 2016 which is $400 higher than the national average.

In the same year, South Carolina had the sixth-highest average electricity use per customer. Other high-usage states were also in the south, including Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.

Hawaii has the highest electricity prices per kilowatthour in the country.
