Savannah-Chatham police are investigating an overnight shooting on the city's west side. Just before midnight, someone called 911 to report a man was lying on Second Avenue at the corner of Nash Avenue. Police and an ambulance arrived to find the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Memorial Health for treatment.
Police recovered at least 15 shell casings in the street where the man had been shot. Neighbors say they heard what sounded like firecrackers before police arrived.
The name of the victim has not yet been released, but at last report relatives said he was in surgery.
