SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students from Georgia Southern's Armstrong Campus spent their lunch break Wednesday doing something good for the community.
The Green Group and other volunteers put in hard work by cleaning up Bell's Landing on the Little Ogeechee River. The catch - the only had an hour to get it done. They picked up trash from around the dock to help stop it from making its way into the water and stopping it from causing harm to animals and fish in the area.
"There's a lot of use on the river, especially at these boat ramps," said Luke Roberson, Education and Monitoring Coordinator. "People come out and will sometimes leave trash instead of putting it in the garbage and taking it with them."
The Ogeechee Riverkeeper is working to get more people out there to help clean up since the weather is warming up.
