41st annual Vidalia Onion Festival underway in Toombs County

VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - The 41st annual Vidalia Onion is underway in Toombs County.

The four-day festival is held each spring in anticipation of the Vidalia Sweet Onion harvest and offers something for everyone.

The festivities kick off with a children's parade and a Movie Under the Stars on Thursday evening. Friday features sidewalk sales in the downtown Historic District during the day and the Official Opening Ceremonies, Street Dance and Fireworks Friday night.

"It may not be that you get visitors stopping in and buying something this weekend, but they come back. If they see a business or a shop that interests them, they'll come back and shop later," said Paula Toole, Executive Director.

The excitement continues on Saturday with a cannon-fire start to the Kiwanis Onion Run in the morning,  the Arts and Crafts Festival with the famous Vidalia Onion Eating Contest, a carnival, Onion Recipe Contest and Public Tasting, and the Vidalia Onion Festival Concert featuring Phil Vassar.
