POOLER, GA (WTOC) - The city of Pooler is looking to expand even more with retail space planned for one area off Pooler Parkway.
Stature Investments, which is a Savannah company, announced the plans this week. The new retail center will be located off Pooler Parkway at Grand Central and North Godley Station Boulevard, and Pooler Mayor Mike Lamb says there are multiple development projects going on.
"I've said this before, we're just not in the targeted area of growth. We're in the bullseye," Mayor Lamb said.
You've probably heard the saying, 'it's cooler in Pooler,' but now, is it too crowded?
"It's probably great and all for the consumers, but as for people like me who are trying to come back to a small town and enjoy their life, it's kind of getting on my nerves," said Garrett Johnson from Pooler.
We got our hands on the renderings for the 42,000 square foot retail development, but developers aren't letting us know any of the particulars who will be taking up space.
Adding more retail options to the list, of course, will bring more traffic.
"Pooler Parkway has become cool, no lie, but where are all these people going to go? They're still building more houses," Johnson said.
Mayor Lamb says the city is constantly looking at ways to improve traffic flow.
"We put in smart lights over in the area where the Tanger is and going up in that area. We do have a dilemma," the mayor said.
Some developers also pitch in the help to alleviate those concerns.
"Some of them have helped us put in red lights to help people get in and out of traffic," Mayor Lamb said.
As development continues to happen in the area, others hope diversity expands and not just the businesses that are already there.
"I just don't want to see four CVS's, four McDonalds', four Olive Gardens. Everything's the same off Pooler Parkway and it's taking up valuable space that we could be using for other things," Johnson said.
"I thank the citizens of Pooler for putting up with the growth," Mayor Lamb said.
The groundbreaking for this development is expected to start in July or August of this year.
