LIBERTY CO., GA (WTOC) -

A man was taken to the hospital overnight after being shot by a Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Authorities say it happened around 10 p.m. Thursday at a home on Ed Powers Boulevard in Gum Branch, which is just west of Hinesville.

GBI agents have identified Charles Hyde as the man who was shot. Agents say Hyde was shot in the hand after raising a gun towards deputies who were there serving a warrant. He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment and has since been released from the hospital.

The deputy was not injured.

The GBI continues to investigate.
