2,600 students graduate from Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Graduation Saturday means a milestone for thousands of local college students.

The biggest ceremony was in Statesboro, as 2,600 graduates received four-year degrees at Paulson Stadium. Atlanta Chamber of Commerce CEO and alum Hala Moddelmog delivered the keynote address. Roughly 25,000 plus loved ones packed the stadium to see their graduates. To the speaker, graduation is also a time to see how the university has grown over the decades.

"I was here back in the late 70's and I think we had 6,000 students," said Hala Moddelmog, the keynote speaker. "Today, to watch this place go from a sleepy college to a wonderful university makes me so proud."

Southern awarded more than 800 Masters and doctorate degrees in a ceremony yesterday, in addition to 800 degrees at the Armstrong campus Friday.
