SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's the National Women Build Week, and the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity and Lowe's are gathering to build their 144th home.
Volunteers raised the first wall on the homes throughout Savannah this week as part of the project. Now in its eleventh year, the organizations say it's about bringing the community together to provide housing for families in need.
"Never dreamed I would be able to even get a house, but to be built from the ground up, that is a true blessing, and I thank Habitat for picking me and giving me the chance to build this home and give other women the chance to build their homes as well," said home recipient, Tanya Rodriguez.
This year, Lowe's donated nearly $2 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the National Women Build Week, which will also take place in over 300 other communities.
