Vidalia Police looking for 19-year-old murder suspect

VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - The Vidalia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning.

Officials say just after 1 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at the Raymonia Apartments located in the 1200 block of Easter Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old male lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Meadows Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police tell us 19-year-old Malique Harrington got into an argument around 1 a.m. with Jerry Lee Clark. They say Harrington argued with Clark inside an apartment, then both of them walked outside. Police believe Harrington shot Clark there and ran. Clark's sister says the argument was over a cell phone.

"It was no cause to shoot somebody over a phone," said the victim's sister, Porshia Johnson. "They fought at first, but you still didn't have to shoot him. I mean, take your loss."

Harrington is described as 5'11 and 160 pounds.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is assisting the Vidalia Police Department with this ongoing investigation.
