GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) - Thousands gathered in Glennville to celebrate the sweetest weekend of the year.
Visitors packed the Glennville Farmers Market for the 42nd annual Sweet Onion Festival. The celebration includes games and live entertainment as well as onions cooked up in a host of ways. Organizers use the day to celebrate their community and a crop that fuels the local economy.
"The impact that agriculture has on our community is immeasurable," said Chris Roessler, the Mayor of Glennville. "The onions and the other crops they grow here...they buy fuel, they buy fertilizer, they employ people who live in the community."
Organizers say they could not pull this off each year without volunteers and sponsors. The grand marshal for Saturday's parade was State Senator Jack Hill.
