For the first time in program history, the Vidalia Indians girls' track and field team are state champs.
Vidalia claimed the GHSA Class AA crown Friday afternoon in Albany, matching the boys' team's feat from a year ago.
The Indians clinched the title with a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay, and star junior Courtney Madison brought it home in the last leg.
It was fitting that Madison's crossing the finish line sealed it for Vidalia, considering all Madison did to make the state championship possible.
For the second straight season, Madison earned the high point award winner in Class AA.
"We came out here on a mission and we obviously accomplished that mission, so I'm proud of myself and my team," Madison says. "It was teamwork. i mean, We're going to all try to get a ring. That's what we did. We all worked together as a team and got a ring."
