SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Golfers took to the green Monday at the Savannah Country Club to raise money for the Carey Zipperer Memorial Scholarship.
This is the fifteenth year for the golf tournament. All the money raised will be used to fund a scholarship for one Benedictine student. Kenny Grainger, the tournament coordinator, explains why they want to honor the memory of Carey Zipperer.
"Carey Zipperer was a one of a kind person that you only really meet one time in your life," Grainger said. "He meant a lot to the community at 17 years old. There is a lot of friends and family that are here every day to honor him. It's just a great way to get together and honor Carey, and it's a great way to help a young man at BC."
Corey Evans was the 2017-2018 recipient of the scholarship. The Zipperer family will award this year's scholarship on Honors Day at BC.
