METTER, GA (WTOC) - The city of Metter has reopened the Metter Animal Shelter after voluntarily closing the facility back in April.
It was under quarantine for a period of time after two animals in the shelter were diagnosed with Parvovirus. City officials closed the shelter to protect against the spread of the disease for other sheltered animals and animals within the community.
Shelter staff stayed in close contact with the Department of Agriculture and followed all recommended protocol.
The city says both animals diagnosed with parvo were successfully treated and are doing well.
