SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Bicycle Campaign held an event over the weekend to help get bikes to women in under-developed parts of the world.
They rode around the heart of Savannah to make an impact all the way around the world.
The Third Annual Cyclofemme event was a celebration of women and bikes that was bigger than Savannah.
"Proceeds from the event are going to World Bicycle Relief, an organization which helps purchase bikes for girls in need in countries in Africa,'' said Caila Brown, Savannah Bicycle Campaign Chair. "There are rides in Atlanta, in Charleston and New York, events all around the globe.''
The common goal? Promoting the impact receiving a bike can make.
"With a bike, these girls are able to now get to school, able to keep and retain their education. It just makes a difference in their life,'' Brown said. "This is importantSavannahnnah because we've seen the difference having a bike can make. We've seen people who are able to get to work or to keep their job, stay in treatment and get to school.''
May is National Bike Month. The Savannah Bicycle Campaign has several more events planned.
